Meet our main flock — just under forty purebred ewes and seven rams, fully pedigreed, with many lines that trace closely back to their South African ancestors. We are proud that our flock represents nearly 10% of the provable population in the country and that it remains genetically diverse with very low breeding coefficients. Our ewe flock range the valley with their lambs at foot, often accompanied by a ram, and the valley throws everything at them — granite mountains, lush riverbanks, baking heat in summer and freezing cold in winter and raise their lambs with ease – so they are ready for anywhere they head to.
We track the flock by satellite GPS as they cover kilometres a day, but return home each evening. Wild in the best sense — capable browsers, rangy, sure-footed animals exercising the instincts and resilence the breed has developed for thousands of years, but also relaxed and workable as all our flock, rams, ewes and lambs know us, and we know them. The flock consist of the full colour spectrum of the Damara, including a growing number of tricolours, all in an array of individual patterns, and of course all who meet the DSBSA standards.
